New Year New Books! As 2012 arrives, so do some incredible and creative new kids’ books.

An early milestone in literacy is being able to understand that a story can be told with just visuals.  A wonderful way to enrich this discovery is through wordless picture books.  Bee and Bird by Craig Frazier is a new addition to this genre and offers a riveting a fun tale about two sky bound critters. This story is full of curious surprises, unique points of view and opportunities for readers to invent new narratives again and again. For ages 5-8.

Do you know a reluctant reader?  Someone whose goal it is to read as little as possible.  Maybe an early reader, a busy college student or an adult trapped in an uninspiring book club.  All of us at one point in our lives have tried to get away with reading the bare minimum.  In Tony Greenwald’s debut novel Charlie Joe Jackson’s Guide to Not Reading we learn a few tricks to winning the battle against reading. This clever book lends humor, a great character and a healthy dose of acknowledgement to a feeling that is universally familiar. The irony in this book is witty and fresh, and is a great read for any one at any time (especially when one doesn’t want to read).  The chapters are quick and there are even illustrations. Recommended for readers age 8 and up.
