Literacy Tutoring Tip:
All About Me Book
Getting to know your student at the beginning of the year sets the tone and pace for the relationship you will have with your student during the whole year. Here is a fun idea you can use to get to know each other.
All About ME Book:
A nice way to get to know some basics about your student, and for him or her to know something about you, too!
Materials: A few sheets of 8 1/2” x 11” blank paper, folded together, in half to make a “book”, crayons, or markers.
Process: At the bottom of each page, write down something you’d like to know about your student, like “What is your favorite color?”, “What is your favorite food?”, “Who lives at your house?”, “Do you have pets?”. Read them together, then let students draw out their answers on each page. Make two identical books, and do one yourself. At the end of the tutoring session, trade books so that you can each keep one about each other.
Variations: For older students, let them create the page titles, themselves.
