Temple Beth Shalom in Needham has been involved with the Greater Boston Jewish Coalition for Literacy since its inception 13 years ago. Team founder Margery Cohen, of blessed memory, was an amazing volunteer and coordinator who left a loving legacy and great relationship with the Mozart School in Roslindale.

In keeping with its name, the school has a special music program and highly regards literacy in all aspects of its curriculum. TBS's tutors are honored to be supporters of the school and grateful for their hospitality. The first teacher with whom current team leader Nancy Krieger worked, retired several years ago, and then returned as a volunteer tutor because "she loved what we did with the students and valued our role in the lives of these students."

Temple Beth Shalom plans to get even further involved in giving to the Mozart School. They are having a Tikkun Olam Day in March in which Nancy will propose a project to promote Literacy efforts. The team also holds ongoing book drives and reminders to encourage additional volunteer tutors. The team may even make "bookshelves" for the students at the Mozart School to be able to take home and establish their own libraries.
