Temple Israel of Sharon and Kennedy School
Tutor Team Leader: Myra Adelman
Principal: Brian Rogan
School Liaison: Michele Morrissey
The Temple Israel team started over ten years ago and was guided by our former team leader Diane Sigel. This year our team has grown to include not only members from Temple Israel but members from the Sharon and Brockton communities as well.
We tutor at the Kennedy K-5 Elementary School in Brockton where we are warmly welcomed by the principal, Mr. Rogan, the assistant principal, Mr. Lumnah, as well as teachers and staff. Michele Morrissey, the reading specialist and team liaison, works tirelessly to help coordinate all the scheduling between the tutors, teachers and students.
At this time there are thirteen members helping over thirty students to improve their reading skills. We work with children from kindergarten to third grade. Most tutors work one on one but some work with two or three students at a time. One of our tutors assists students from the bilingual class. The teachers provide appropriate books for the students but tutors may bring their own materials and ideas to enhance the learning experience.
The positive atmosphere and our commitment to the children keep many of our tutors coming back for years and new ones happy to join us.
