GBIO's Campaigns
The Jewish community’s involvement in GBIO’s recent success with the Nursing Home Worker Campaign:
JCRC participated actively in the Greater Boston Interfaith Organization (GBIO)’s nursing home campaign, advocating for better treatment of certified nursing assistants, the majority of whom are Haitian. JCRC representatives participated in several actions (public accountability meetings) throughout the campaign, including a large action featuring Attorney General Reilly, a demonstration outside a Newton nursing home and a gathering at the attorney general’s office to support nursing home workers filing unfair labor practice complaints. Significant relationships were built between Boston’s Haitian and Jewish communities through participation in the nursing home campaign. As a result of JCRC and GBIO’s efforts, the attorney general issued an advisory detailing the rights of workers particularly with regard to language discrimination, the industry group held a training for 200 nursing home administrators and most significantly, workers reported dramatically improved conditions in the workplace.
GBIO and JCRC's involvement in the Affordable Care Today! Campaign:
GBIO and JCRC recently joined a coalition with other community-based organizations to support Health Care for All’s campaign to improve access and affordability to quality health care in Massachusetts.
