Secular LGBT Resources

Below are curricula and resources regarding the intentional inclusion of LGBT persons in schools and communities.  Most of these resources can be found online at the websites provided.  The rest may be ordered by contacting JCRC at tzedekresources@jcrcboston.org.

The Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN)

GLSEN, or the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network, now in its 10th year, is the leading national education organization focused on ensuring safe schools for all students.
The GLSEN Lunch Box 2 is a comprehensive training program aimed at providing educators and community members with the background knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to make schools safer and more affirming places for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) students.  The GLSEN Lunchbox 2 is designed to be a "do-it-yourself" kit and contains all the instructions and materials necessary to conduct complete trainings that address LGBT issues.

Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays

Parents, Families & Friends of Lesbians & Gays (PFLAG) is a national non-profit organization with over 200,000 members and supporters and over 500 affiliates in the United States. This vast grassroots network is cultivated, resourced and serviced by the PFLAG national office, located in Washington, D.C., the national Board of Directors and 13 Regional Directors.

PFLAG has many publications available on their website, http://www.pflag.org/Publications___Promotions.publications.0.html

These resources include:
Bisexuality Resource Packet: Bisexuality is a commonly misunderstood and misrepresented concept. This packet provides facts about bisexuality, commonly-asked questions, resource lists and a set of articles.

From Our House to the Schoolhouse: A Safe Schools Publication: Making schools safe for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered youth is an important part of PFLAG's work. Facts about anti-gay harassment in schools and important legal landmarks are detailed in this booklet for educators. Resources and a "safe schools checklist" are also included.

Be Yourself: Questions and Answers for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Youth. Today's youth face more social pressures than ever, especially since young people are coming out at increasingly younger ages. This publication offers a supportive approach to common questions asked by teens who may be questioning their sexual orientation. It also provides hotline numbers for teens and a list of resources.
