Havayah Winter Camp (Bureau of Jewish Education (BJE))
In its 13th year, the Havayah program at the Bureau of Jewish Education provides an excellent opportunity for Boston area teens to engage in an intensive Jewish experience. This cultural exchange empowers teens from Boston, Dnepropetrovsk and Haifa to work together and create a fun and educational winter camp program for children at the Day School. More than 350 Boston-area teens have participated in this program, during which leadership skills are developed and powerful common links between the three communities are discovered. Through the experiences of teaching students in the Jewish Day school, singing with the Beit Baruch choir, working with a child at the Special Needs Resource Center, and having meaningful discussions with each other, Havayah strengthens the Jewish identity of the Americans, Ukrainians and Israelis. Through Havayah, lifelong friendships are formed, a deeper commitment to K’lal Yisrael is reached, and a sense of belonging to a global Jewish community is built.
