MicroEnterprise Initiative for Women (Jewish Vocational Service (JVS) )

The Microenterprise Development Loan Program (MDLP), established in 2004, provides underserved women-at-risk with opportunities to advance themselves in business by promoting greater economic self-sufficiency with micro-credit loans for capital and training they would otherwise not have.  There have been thirteen loans made for businesses ranging from shoe making and perfume retail to a pizza business and interior designing.  Natasha Ryier, the staff person in Dnepropetrovsk, offers technical assistance in problem solving and business planning.  MDLP has added services of technical assistance and loan fund preparation through a recently developed partnership with the Joint Distribution Committee's AVODA training programs.  Participants in this program include women who have children at the Educational Resource Center.  The MDLP has engendered a considerable amount of interest and support in the community in Dnepropetrovsk and has formed an active loan committee.
