Family and Community Empowerment
The goal of these programs is to empower the family and community, strengthen the community's image/self-image, and develop community leadership.
Creating Community Leadership
Shiluvim is continually working to foster community leaders – "activists." These activists are part of the neighborhood focus area committees where they explain the community's needs, and plan, along with the committee professionals, the responses to the needs. Activists also represent the community in meetings with high-level municipal officials. In addition, activists explain Shiluvim's programs to the community and recruit program participants. The activists participate in courses to improve their leadership abilities.
- Community Events
Shiluvim holds community events such as cultural evening and trips to build community identity and involvement. - Home Program
This program, for parents with children up to age three, fosters parenting abilities and child development. 20 families are participating. - Day Care Subsidies
Shiluvim provides subsidies to about 35 families for day care so that mothers can seek work and children can start building Hebrew language skills at an early age. - Seniors Activities
Shiluvim provides a variety of activities for seniors in each of the three areas. About 85 seniors are participating. In addition, a mediator accompanies seniors to heath clinics, hospitals, and other services. - Atzmaut (Independence) Program
In this JDC program, a case coordinator in each of the three areas works with about 20 families to help family members gain necessary skills and link to appropriate programs.
