Health Care
Language barriers and cultural differences cause a severe lack of communication between health care staff and the Ethiopian community. In addition, community members often lack basic health knowledge such as illness prevention and the proper use of medications.
The goal of the program is to increase accessibility to services, improve communication with health care providers, and increase knowledge of health issues.
- Health Mediators
Shiluvim provides three health mediators, one in each region. In the family health clinics, these mediators provide translation, explain the use of medications, and help community members make specialty clinic appointments. - Workshops
The health mediators organize workshops for community members on topics such a diabetes, high blood pressure, nutrition, and physical fitness. - Accompaniment
A part-time Shluvim worker accompanies individuals to specialty clinics.
