Shiluvim's New Employment Initiative!

JCRC is excited to announce Shiluvim’s new Business Entrepreneurship and Employer Partnership (BEEP) Initiative.  Supported by a generous individual Boston donor, the program is a collaboration of Shiluvim, MATI Haifa, and JCRC’s Ethiopian Jewry Committee.  This innovative program will build workforce development programs and spark entrepreneurship in the Ethiopian Israeli community of Haifa. Implementation of this three-year plan begins this fall.

The initiative consists of several components:

Business Entrepreneurship and Workforce Education Participants will study entrepreneurship and the culture of work, both its demands and its opportunities.  The program will help them identify their interests and abilities, create a personal vision, and develop confidence.

Employment Partnership   Jewish Vocational Services in Boston has developed workforce development partnerships with local employers, including Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, that both place clients and provide one-the-job education and training to encourage advancement. This past March in Haifa, representatives from JVS and BIDMC joined JCRC and Shiluvim in meetings with three hospitals in Haifa to promote the employer partnership model. As a result, Bnai Tzion Hospital is partnering with Shiluvim to develop a patient caregiver course for 25 members of the Ethiopian community.

Vocational Training Participants will receive training that could lead to starting a business or working for an employer. Possible fields include: music, photography for events, beauty care, family day care, and import/export business with Ethiopia.

Business Development Graduates of vocational training will receive coaching to start their own businesses. In addition, the program will reach out to existing Ethiopian Israeli business owners in Haifa to help them grown their businesses.

Group and Personal Coaching BEEP provides distinctive “wrap-around” services for participants, including group and personal counseling before, during and after vocational training, including coaching for new business owners.
