Circumcision Bill
MAJF and JCRC submitted testimony in conjunction with a number of Rabbinic organizations in opposition to the anti-circumcision bill heard by the Judiciary Committee on Beacon Hill in early March.
The bill was filed by Senator Michael Morrissey. However, it is important to note that he acted solely per his constitutional obligation to file the bill on behalf of its author/his constituent. Senator Morrissey unequivocally does not support the bill and did not testify about the bill at the hearing. The supporters are a group of people who are strongly opposed to circumcision because they view it to be mutilation without giving the individual the choice. At the hearing, most of the supporters spoke about loss of sensation and made "equal protection claims" (if it's banned for girls, it should be for boys).
Without any legislative support, this bill is unlikely to progress out of the Judiciary Committee.
