Israel Advocacy & Communications Intern for 2008 to 2009 academic year
Under the supervision of the Director of the Israel Action Center, the Israel Advocacy & Communications Intern is responsible for coordinating the Weekly Israel Update, a weekly online publication of the JCRC with a distribution of more than 1,800.
Specific duties include:
- Develop outline for Weekly Israel Update
- Write features and edit content
- Participate in weekly editorial meetings
- Develop and implement a strategy to increase distribution and interactivity of the Israel Update
- Outreach to community institutions and organization to include their Israel-related events in the Weekly Israel Update
- Working with the Webmaster, ensure that content on Web site and in Update is consistent and timely
- Format articles and content appropriately
- Research publications to determine content of Weekly Israel Update
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- High level of computer savvy and comfort
- Excellent writing skills
- College undergraduate or graduate student
- Background in either Journalism/Communications/Media technology and/or Middle Eastern Studies/Political Science/Judaic Studies
- Working knowledge of Israeli and Jewish history/culture/tradition preferred
- Knowledge of local community organizations and initiatives
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task
- Strategic thinker
- Good organizational skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work 15-25 hours per week

Academic Affairs Officer
Specific duties include:
- Serving as liaison between the Israeli Consulate and New England area colleges and universities
- Working with student groups on Israel programming
- Monitoring campus press
- Arranging lectures and creating and managing the programs for all visiting speakers and dignitaries
- Organizing educational and advocacy seminars for students
- Managing the Consulate's Speakers Bureau
- Assisting in the planning of Consulate events
- Monitoring the political atmosphere on ca mpuses around New England with regards to Israel and Israel related activities and programming
- Developing relationships with various universities, students, facutly, and staff
- Serve as the Consulate's permanent representative on the Israel Campus Roundtable
- Hire and mange Consulate interns and run the Consulate internship program
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of the Middle East
- Experience working with New England colleges and universities
- Bachelors degree in related field
- Experience and knowledge of student activities on campuses
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Native English speaker and American citizen
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Strong internet research skills
- Knowledge of Hebrew is a plus
