Dozens gathered at Faneuil Hall yesterday in somber tribute of Yom Hashoah - or Holocaust Remembrance Day. Some attended to share stories, others to honor loved ones and to gain strength from a legacy of strength and resilience.
“It was an intensely emotional day,” said Sara Smolover, 46, of West Roxbury. “We are not a family of survivors, but I just feel it’s very important as a Jewish family to participate any way we can in Holocaust commemoration and to especially have my children hear from people who are still alive and lived through it.”
Sherrie Krasner of Newton, whose father survived Auschwitz, took her children to the ceremony. The children, she said, were moved by excerpts read from Holocaust diaries. “I go to honor my father’s memory and to honor the memory of his family,” said Krasner. “He was the sole survivor from his family.”
