JCRC Commends Massachusetts House of Representatives
(Boston, September 6, 2001) JCRC President Geoffrey H. Lewis and Executive Director Nancy K. Kaufman praised today's action by Speaker Finneran and the Massachusetts House of Representatives in support of the Bush administration's recall of the US delegation to the United Nation's Conference on Racism in Durban.
"Under the leadership of the Speaker Finneran, we applaud today's action of the Massachusetts House of Representatives," said Geoffrey Lewis. The efforts of the Bush administration and particularly US Secretary of State Colin Powell are to be commended for their staunch support of eradicating global racism. As the final draft is emerging from Durban, it is clear that only one country in the world- Israel- has been singled out for condemnation, and this is unacceptable to the government of the United States and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. We are also grateful that the House has acknowledged that the State of Israel recognizes and protects the rights of all its citizens, both Jewish and non-Jewish."
Nancy Kaufman, JCRC Executive Director added "it is a sad day when an issue as important as racism is hijacked by people who have little or no interest in solving this global problem. The people of Massachusetts have a vested interest in supporting the State of Israel and seeing an end to racism in all its insidious forms."
