Jewish Community Decries Terrorist Attacks, Calls On Palestinian Authority To End Violence and Terror

(Boston - April 1, 2002) In a statement issued today, JCRC Executive Director Nancy K. Kaufman and President Geoffrey H. Lewis supported Israel's right to defend itself after terrorist attacks killed and maimed scores of Israeli civilians over the Passover holiday.

"The Israeli people have been subjected to acts of violence and terror against innocent civilians that no country in the world would tolerate," said Kaufman.  "By acting to root out the terrorist infrastructure in the West Bank, Israel seeks to protect itself from attacks on its cities."

Mr. Lewis noted, "We are deeply concerned for the loss of innocent lives in this conflict.  The terror must be stopped.  We applaud the diplomatic efforts of the United States government to assist Israel in ending this terror.

"JCRC supports Israel's right to do what Arafat and the Palestinian Authority have failed to do since the beginning of the Oslo process; to go after the terrorists and their support systems and torestore a sense of security for the Israeli people.  This is a fundamental right and obligation of any sovereign nation."
