Jewish Community Expresses Outrage At Suicide Bombings In Jerusalem, Baghdad

(Boston, August 19)  The Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Boston today condemned the horrific suicide bombings in Jerusalem and Iraq that left more than 40 people dead - among them many children - and expressed condolences to the victims' families.

Susan A. Calechman, JCRC President and Nancy K. Kaufman, JCRC Executive Director, issued the following statement in reaction to the bombings:

"We are disturbed and deeply saddened by the attacks that took place today in Jerusalem and Baghdad. More than 40 innocent people died today at the hands of terrorists. At this critical juncture in the Middle East we again express our support for the global war on terror and for the coalition troops, with the understanding that terrorist organizations everywhere must be eradicated. We call on Palestinian Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas to heed President Bush's demand this morning even before today's attacks to 'dismantle and destroy organizations which are interested in taking innocent lives in order to prevent a peace process from going forward.' Palestinian action against terrorists is an essential step toward a necessary peace in the Middle East. We must continue to be resolute in fighting the global war on terror and implore Middle East and world leaders to do the same."
