Jewish Community Praises President Bush’s Condemnation Of Malaysian Leader’s Anti-Semitic Speech

(Boston, October 23)  The Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Boston praised President George W. Bush today for his strong condemnation of Prime Minister Mahathir Mohammad of Malaysia's incendiary and racist remarks made last week to the Organization of the Islamic Conference.  The JCRC of Greater Boston commends President Bush for his moral clarity and leadership in rebuking the Prime Minister for his repugnant remarks.

Nancy K. Kaufman, JCRC Executive Director, made the following statement in reaction to the Prime Minister's contemptible words :  "The Jewish community of Boston and the United States is outraged at the Malaysian Prime Minister's address to the Islamic conference and at the standing ovation given him after his hateful, anti-Semitic comments. We must be resolute in fighting racism and oppression, and call upon all freedom-loving people to strongly condemn such immoral and vile hate speech."

This statement came after such comments by Prime Minister Mahathir as, " the Europeans killed six million Jews out of 12 million, but today the Jews rule the world by proxy. They get others to fight and die for them."  The Prime Minister refused to apologize for this and other horrific statements made during the speech.

The JCRC also expressed outrage by the actions of those European countries such as France and Greece who blocked the inclusion of a condemnation of Prime Minister Mahathir's abhorrent comments at an EU summit last week.
