Jewish Community Expresses Outrage at Continued Anti-Semitic Violence in France

(August 24, Boston)  Susan A. Calechman, President and Nancy K. Kaufman, Executive Director of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Boston released this statement today in response to the destruction of Paris' Judeo-Spanish social center:

"The Jewish community is outraged and dismayed by this most recent anti-Semitic attack against our brothers and sisters in Paris.

President Chirac and the French government must do more than issue statements.  They must take swift and decisive action to find those responsible for creating this environment of intimidation and bigotry.  French Jews need concrete government action to ensure their safety and security.  Judges must hand out stiff sentences and deter such acts from being repeated.

Sixty years have passed since Paris was liberated from Nazi tyranny.  France must now liberate itself from the scourge of anti-Semitism."
