On Jan. 31, the state Association of Jewish Federations and the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Boston sponsored the ninth annual Legislative Reception at the Boston bar Association. The event, chaired by Steve Grossman, included leaders from the organized Jewish community and more than 60 legislators from across the commonwealth.

Stuart Rossman, president of the state Association of Jewish Federations and a JCRC vice president, presented state Sen. Susan C. Fargo, D-Lincoln, with a legislative achievement Award.

Fargo, Senate chairman of the Committee on Public Health, was recognized for her legislative accomplishments including the enactment of the workforce smoking ban, establishment of buffer zones outside of family planning clinics, and limits on pesticides in schools, day care centers and playgrounds.

"the civic responsibility of advocating for laws that promote equality and justice belong not just to legislators but to us all," said Fargo. "Receiving this award from the JCRC is a distinct honor.
