JCRC Condemns Anti-Israel Protest, Supports Israel's Right to Self-Defense

(July 12, 2006) The Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) of Greater Boston released the following statement concerning the anti- Israel protest today at 12:30 p.m. at the Israeli Consulate to New England:

JCRC calls on the Greater Boston community to reject the extremist views expressed at today's protest. Some of these groups deny Israel's right to exist and to defend herself from terror attacks.  The anti-Israel demonstrators are out of touch with the overwhelming number of Americans who in a new poll showed strong support for Israel's right to defend her citizens from attack and kidnapping.

JCRC once again joins the increasing appeals for the immediate and unconditional release of Gilad Shalit, the cessation of missile fire into Israel, and an end to all terror attacks. Israel wants peace and a two state solution.  However, Israel cannot accept daily attacks upon her citizens. The Hamas-controlled Palestinian Authority must answer the international community's calls to renounce terrorism, recognize Israel's right to exist, and respect previous agreements made between Israel and the Palestinians.

"Hamas' terror campaign continues to bring suffering to Israelis and Palestinians.  It is important for all people who strive for peace to join together to denounce terror and recognize the desire of Israel to live in peace with security," said JCRC Executive Director Nancy K. Kaufman.
