JCRC Congratulates Kadima Party On Victory

(Boston, March 29) Nancy K. Kaufman, Executive Director of the Jewish Community Relations Council, and Susan A. Calechman, President of the Jewish Community Relations Council, issued the following statement in response to the Kadima party's victory in yesterday's elections in Israel:

"The Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Boston congratulates the Kadima Party and its leader, Ehud Olmert, on its victory in yesterday's elections.  We celebrate Israel's participation in the democratic process in a region where democracy is the exception, not the norm.

We would also like to commend Prime Minister Olmert and the people of Israel for achieving yet another peaceful transition of power and are hopeful that peace will be achieved during the next four years and beyond.

Israel is a diverse nation. Yesterday's elections reflect that diversity with citizens from different sectors of Israeli society, including Russian immigrants, Arab-Israelis, the elderly and Jews indigenous to the Middle East and North Africa represented in the Knesset.

We are confident that the strong, mutually supportive relationship between the U.S. and Israel will continue and that our country will continue to work to achieve peace, security and economic growth in the Middle East."
