Send Page to a Friend Jewish Community Supports Israel at its Time of War, Calls for Support (July 13, 2006) Nancy K. Kaufman, Executive Director and James Segel, President, issued the following statement after the kidnapping and murder of Israeli soldiers and the unprovoked attacks on its cities by Hezbollah. Israel acted today to defend itself, fulfilling its primary responsibility to protect its citizens.  These attacks by the terrorist organizations, Hezbollah and Hamas, are masterminded by Iran, which seeks to destroy Israel and use its emerging nuclear weapons capability to create a radical, Islamic totalitarian regime throughout the Middle East. We want to express our concern for the wellbeing of innocent people, Israeli, Palestinian and Lebanese, who have been hurt.  We are proud that Israel is doing everything it can to minimize civilian injuries and provide humanitarian assistance in the Gaza Strip. We unequivocally support Israel and call on all people of good will to do the same.  Peace and stability in the Middle East can only be achieved when terrorism by Israel's sworn enemies ends.
