The city of Boston, in collaboration with faith-based and community-based organizations, announced grants totaling $240,000 for summer youth programs.

Boston's Mayor Thomas M. Menino and a collaboration of the organizations said a news conference Tuesday will formally announce the grants, along with an additional $125,000 to support collaborative efforts through the Boston Capacity Tank's High Risk Youth Network.

The Black Ministerial Alliance, Boston Ten Point Coalition, Greater Boston Interfaith Organization, Dorchester Youth Collaborative, Massachusetts Communities Action Network, and Jewish Community Relations Council are collaborating on the initiatives.

In addition, the Mayor has worked with the above six partners to develop a $3 million request for state funds.

The partners are planning a long-term, statewide collaborative effort to prevent youth violence, building on recent efforts.
