Giving the Gift of Life

On June 24, GesherCity held a Bone Marrow Drive and Community-wide event aimed at getting 250 young adults into the Gift of Life National Jewish registry of potential donors.  Thanks to a special grant from the Winn Family and Combined Jewish Philanthropies, the event resulted in enough tests to put 250 people into the registry.  All it takes to be put into the registry is a simple cheek swab (no blood is drawn).  "I am so grateful to the donors, organizations and volunteers who have made it possible for the Jewish young adults in Boston to demonstrate the compassion and commitment our community has to to the broader community we live in," said Chloe Safier, staff coordinator of the event and the Young Adult Social Justice Coordinator at the JCRC.  Donors must be between the ages of 18-60, and do not have to be Jewish to be put in the registry.  For more information, visit www.giftoflife.org
