Cambridge—GasherCity, the Greater Boston Jewish community's young adult outreach program, is hosting a Bone Marrow Donor Drive and community event at the Harvard Hillel on Sunday, June 24, from 2-6 p.m.
The event will be an opportunity for the Jewish young adult community to come together and register to become potential bone marrow donors while also celebrating the life we have to give with live music featuring klezmer-rock band Golem. This performance is especially meaningful to the New York-based band because lead singer Aaron Diskin's father, renowned anthropologist and MIT professor Martin Diskin, died of leukemia at the age of 62.
There will also be free catered food, a free JP Licks sundae bar, giveaways, activities and a raffle. The drive is made possible by the Winn family, in partnership with Combined Jewish Philanthropies and the Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation, the nation's only Jewish bone marrow registry.
Eligible donors must be over the age of 18 and in general good health. Testing is fast and easy, requiring only a swab from inside the cheek. Participants will be entered into Gift of Life's registry for the benefit of all patients nationwide.
