Sderot Remains In Real Danger

Approximately 300 people from across the community, along with Newton Mayor David Cohen, gathered at Newton City Hall last Sunday for a Community Walk for the Children of Sderot. We stood together in solidarity with the residents of Sderot who are forced to live in terror due to the constant bombardment of their city by rockets fired from Gaza.
The event was sponsored by over 30 Jewish organizations, schools, and synagogues in the Boston area, including the Boston Israel Action Committee, the Jewish Community Relations Council, and the David Project. Thanks to the generous support of the walkers, significant funds were raised, which will be used for bomb shelter renovation and trauma counseling for children in Sderot.
We would like to thank all the organizations that sponsored this walk, and commend the attendees for taking the time to highlight this crisis.
We are concerned that the outcome of the Annapolis meeting will not be positive for Israel and its security, because the meeting is disconnected from events on the ground.
There is no prospect for peace as long as Hamas remains in control of Gaza and threatens to take over the West Bank. The Hamas takeover of Gaza following Israel’s withdrawal and the current terrorization of the people of Sderot illustrate the danger which Israel faces in withdrawing from territory.
We urge readers of the Advocate to let the U.S. Administration know that the continuation of this state of terror in Sderot is not acceptable, and that the U.S. should support Israel in any actions which it feels necessary to protect its citizens, including those of Sderot.
