United Nations International Day of Remembrance for Victims of the Holocaust
Friday, January 27 marked an international day of remembrance for Holocaust victims. Our remembrance day program—coordinated by JCRC's Holocaust Awareness department—gave students the opportunity to connect personally with the lessons of the Holocaust.
During the commemoration, students immersed themselves in history by reading diary entries from children who perished. Afterwards, the 300 students in attendance also shared lunch and informal conversations with 20 Holocaust survivors.
Elected officials and foreign dignitaries, including Newton Mayor Setti Warren, Boston City Councilor Mike Ross, Consul General of Israel to New England Shai Bazak and Deputy Consul General of Germany to Boston Claudia Schuett also attend and spoke at the event.
