TELEM@13

For thirteen years, JCRC’s TELEM and B’nai TELEM programs have helped inspire young people to experience volunteerism and social action in positive and meaningful ways as they build relationships and strengthen their Jewish identities. We’re commemorating our Bar/Bat Mitzvah year through end-of-year celebrations with TELEM teams to recognize their hard work and accomplishments.
April 12th, Temple Shir Tikvah, Winchester

Well done Temple Shir Tikvah 6th graders! We celebrated the first TELEM@13 birthday party with the 6th grade at Temple Shir Tikvah. Students reflected on their year of service visits to Atria Senior Living.

May 8th, Temple Emanuel of Newton

This group of 6th graders made service visits to Cradles to Crayons, Boston Nature Center, Newbridge on the Charles, & JF & CS’s Family Table.

May 16th, Temple Ohabei Shalom

Temple Ohabei Shalom celebrated the end of the school year and TELEM@13 with their reading buddies at the Boys & Girls Club of Dorchester.

Teens from TOS tutor elementary students weekly in reading at BGCD. We are so impressed by the level of leadership and commitment these teens have shown in their TELEM volunteering.

Congrats on a great year of reading!

The celebration of TELEM@13 Bar/Bat Mitzvah year continued with cake and conversation about service with the B’nai TELEM group at Temple Shir Tikva Wayland. Though snow and rain wrecked havoc with some outdoor service visits, this intrepid group participated in several different service-learning opportunities: working with adults with special needs at Belmont Sports; preparing food pickups at Family Table; participating in intergenerational programming at the Carr House; and reading and doing literacy games with children at the South Middlesex Opportunity Council in Framingham. And many of this crew are walking the Walk for Hunger on May 6! Kol HaKavod – a job well done – for this B’nai TELEM crew of 6th graders and educators.

May 9th, Temple Chayai Shalom

Temple Chayai Shalom‘s 7th grade class and their families celebrated the end of the Hebrew school year and TELEM@13.

Students presented their inter-generational interview projects (part of the Connecting Generations unit), and enjoyed time together to reflect on the year.

May 6th, Congregation Agudath Achim

This TELEM team alternated volunteering between two service sites. They ran an exercise class for the residents of the Arbors Assisted Living, and hosted a play group for the children living at the Conway House Family Shelter.

May 14th, Temple Sinai, Sharon

Temple Sinai of Sharon‘s two TELEM teams celebrated TELEM@13 at their last service visits for the school year.

Temple Sinai’s teens volunteer weekly at Westfield Child Care Center, and monthly at Brightview Senior Living.

Well done!

June 5th, Solomon Schechter Day School

The 7th grade class at Schechter volunteers as reading buddies to the 1st grade at the Jackson Mann school in Allston.

To celebrate a great year of reading together, Schechter hosted their buddies for a party with outdoor games, pizza, and dessert.
