  • ACTION ALERT: Brookline Select Board Meeting Tonight

    MESSAGE TO THE BROOKLINE COMMUNITY

We want to make Brookline residents aware of the Select Board Meeting tonight, Tuesday March 12, 6pm, at which there will be public comment on warrant articles including a resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza (Item 7, article 19 on the agenda). This is in advance of the item being considered at Town Meeting in May.

First, we encourage Brookline residents to read the resolution and the proposed alternative here (page 114 of the agenda packet).

We also encourage you to read JCRC’s guidance regarding local ceasefire resolutions and community engagement.

Municipal resolutions involving international affairs and the rhetoric surrounding their consideration can perpetuate tension and division right here at home. This resolution is no exception and as it is considered, we encourage Brookline residents to engage in civil, civic discourse.

Be heard during the virtual public comment period Tonight. Advanced registration is required.

Persons wishing to speak may sign up in advance beginning on the Friday preceding the meeting or may sign up in person at the meeting. Speakers will be taken up in the order they sign up. Advance registration is available by calling the Select Board’s office at 617-730-2202 or by e-mail at . “

When you communicate during public comment:

    • Be polite. Thank the Select Board for hearing you out
    • Don’t attack them, and don’t criticize them individually
    • Keep your remarks tight
    • Please use your own words, speak from your own perspective and experience – don’t just cut and paste talking points – they don’t need to hear the same sentences over and over
