  • ACTION ALERT To The Brookline Community Re: Ceasefire Warrant Article

    RE: CEASEFIRE WARRANT ARTICLE

We want to make Brookline residents aware of the Ad Hoc Subcommittee of the Advisory Committee for WA 19 Public Hearing on Monday, April 8, from 7-10pm. This is a public hearing followed by a public meeting on Warrant Article 19, a “Resolution calling for a ceasefire and lasting peace” and on proposed amendments – in advance of the item being considered at the Town Meeting, May 28th.

During the April 8th public hearing, members of the public will have an opportunity to offer comments on items under consideration.

You can view and download the agenda, register for the meeting using the Zoom joining link, and access related documents on the Town Calendar.

The subcommittee also welcomes and encourages written comments which will be circulated to members of the subcommittee if they are sent to the chair and/or  no later than 12 noon one day prior to the hearing.

In addition to the agenda, article 19, and amendments linked above, we also encourage you to read JCRC’s guidance regarding local ceasefire resolutions and community engagement. Municipal resolutions involving international affairs (and the rhetoric surrounding their consideration) can perpetuate tension and division in our local communities. This resolution is no exception and as it is considered, we encourage Brookline residents to engage in civil, civic discourse.

When you communicate in writing or during public comment:

    • Be polite. Thank the Advisory Committee for hearing you out
    • Don’t attack them, and don’t criticize them individually
    • Keep your remarks tight
    • Please use your own words, speak from your own perspective and experience – don’t just cut and paste talking points – they don’t need to hear the same sentences over and over
